Air Analysis for Grant Support

Rhode Island

Grant applications have many components that require a collaborative, multidisciplinary team to successfully complete. For BUILD, TIGER, and FASTLANE grant applications, air quality services are often required to assess the impacts of proposed projects. VHB’s team prepares regional assessments using traffic data and a MOVES model to compare the no-build and build conditions to determine a project’s emissions impacts and possible benefits. The pollutants assessed include Oxides of Nitrogen (NOX), Volatile Organic Compounds, (VOC), Particulate Matter (PM10 and PM2.5) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2). Corresponding damage costs are calculated using the latest benefit-cost analysis guidance from United States Department of Transportation.

Successful projects that required air analysis as part of the grant application process include:

  • Route 146
  • Interstate 195 Washington Bridge
  • I-95 Northbound Viaduct
  • I-95 Northbound Dean Street
  • Route 6 & 10 Interchange Improvement Project
  • Route 37 Bridge Project
  • Apponaug Circulator Project
  • Pell Bridge
VHB provides air quality analysis support for grant applications, including RIDOT‘s Pell Bridge project.
