Bridge Design & Engineering

VHB provides comprehensive design, analysis, and engineering services for highway, railroad, and pedestrian bridges, creating safe, durable, and efficient structures that enhance the built environment. Our experience includes all aspects of bridge and structural engineering, from complex structures in tight urban areas for state DOTs, to conventional bridges for municipalities and private clients. We find innovative ways to solve project challenges and improve constructability by leveraging our strategic planners, emerging technologies, and understanding of alternative materials.
Bridge Rehabilitation & Repair

VHB’s bridge and structure rehabilitation services include inspection services, material testing and condition evaluation, and designing and detailing repair, rehabilitation, strengthening, and preservation programs on project sizes ranging from culverts to complex and historic bridge structures. We use our breadth of structural experience to develop unique repairs to suit every project’s needs.
Bridge Inspection & Rating

VHB performs inspection, design, rating, evaluation, and repair of municipal, state-owned, and federal structures throughout the eastern seaboard. Our bridge inspectors have conducted countless inspections of major complex bridges, including structures over waterways, railroads, local roads, and highways. We offer in-house, innovative technology and techniques, such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to supplement bridge inspections and visually inspect bridge areas that pose an access challenge, safety concern, or operational impact.
Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC)

We understand the importance of minimizing traffic and service disruptions when considering options for bridge replacement or rehabilitation. VHB engineers are leaders in ABC and will help evaluate techniques best suited for the project site, as well as provide overall improvements to structure quality and durability. We are well versed in ABC techniques including use of precast concrete elements, superstructure slides, heavy lifts, Prefabricated Bridge Units (PBUs), and Self-Propelled Modular Transporter (SPMT) moves.
Structures Design & Engineering

VHB has diverse experience in design of commuter rail and transit stations, culverts, parking structures, crew buildings, maintenance facilities, retaining walls, sign/signal supports, traffic signal & sign supports, and utility structures. We approach these projects in much the same way we approach bridge projects, developing creative solutions focused on constructability, durability, cost control, and minimized disruption to facility operations.
