Dominion Energy, a power and energy company that provides electricity in areas of Virginia and North Carolina, is proactively taking action to address aging electric transmission lines which are reaching the end of their service lifespan. As a teaming partner to C2 Environmental, VHB completed environmental services, including stream and wetland delineations, along more than 80-miles of overhead transmission line right-of-way in Virginia and North Carolina as one of the first steps necessary for rebuilding. The wetland delineations identified aquatic resources, including streams and wetlands, that cannot be disturbed during construction without a permit. This data was compiled into a technical report that included mapping, field analysis data, and photos. Following report completion, jurisdictional determinations were secured through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to verify the nature and extent of federally protected aquatic resources—information used by Dominion to help minimize impacts to wetlands and streams as they prepare to rebuild critical electric transmission lines.
