Coburn Gore Land Port of Entry

Coburn Gore, ME

The Coburn Gore Land Port of Entry (LPOE) connects the United States to Saint Augustin de Woburn in Quebec, Canada. Originally built in 1932, this station is set for a major transformation from a commercial to a full-service facility, supporting Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection (CBP) mission. Funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act, this modernized port will strengthen supply chains, bolster national security and stimulate economic growth.

The LPOE will include a new administration building, commercial inspection area, pedestrian processing, vehicle lanes, and employee living facilities. Advanced tecologies will improve traffic flow and security, while reducing wait times.

Dattner Architects is leading the design of this Net Zero Ready facility. VHB was engaged to support the master planning, design, and construction with traffic, transportation, civil engineering and energy design services. VHB’s Energy Innovation Group is designing on-site renewable and resilient energy systems which include solar, battery energy storage, microgrid, and grid interconnections. These systems will create an integrated energy model which will balance operational and electric vehicle energy loads along with its geothermal design. Once complete, Coburn Gore will serve as a model of sustainability and support the Federal Sustainability Plan, which directs federal agencies to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
