FDOT District 5 Transportation System Management & Operations and GIS Support

DeLand, FL

District 5 of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) uses its Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSM&O) Program and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) solutions to enhance safety, improve travel time reliability, and reduce environmental impacts in Central Florida.

VHB collaborated with District 5 on the “Planning for TSM&O Guidebook” to document lessons learned and best practices for establishing TSM&O programs in other regions. VHB also worked with the District in developing its TSM&O Implementation Plan, which established goals, objectives, and activities for the next five years.

VHB supported the District in developing the SunStore data warehouse. As Project Manager, VHB collected, organized, and distributed over 100 billion individual records in interactive data tools and dashboards that allows immediate analysis. The Regional Transportation Management Center (RTMC) dashboard reports current traffic speeds and congestion in near real-time, allowing for direct comparisons with newly collected data. The SunStore Data Picker planning dashboard enables users to select specific data and time ranges, combining performance measures with safety data to help planners and engineers understand trends and patterns.
