For more than 15 consecutive years, VHB has been an on-call consultant to the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) services. Under the direction of the Bureau of Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO), VHB has successfully completed numerous assignments encompassing all phases of ITS project development from planning and design to deployment and testing.
Assignments have included master plan development and comprehensive support of design-build RFPs for two major turnpike corridors (I-95/Spaulding Turnpike and FE Everett Turnpike) involving procurement, design, and construction. VHB has also provided systems engineering, procurement, and design and construction oversight to create a dynamic part-time shoulder use (PTSU) system between New Hampshire and Maine. Across numerous projects, VHB has successfully crafted plans, special provisions, and cost estimates for the installation of nearly 40 miles of single-mode fiber optic cable and conduit along I-93, spanning from Salem to Concord.
Additionally, VHB has designed plans, special provisions, and cost estimates for the integration of over 50 ITS field devices into highway and bridge capital projects. VHB also supervised the post-installation construction testing and developed an upgraded security and monitoring system (SMS) for the Portsmouth Transportation Center, significantly elevating its role as a multimodal transit facility.
