Last week, VHB joined the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s (MassDOT) for the transportation authority’s annual Moving Together conference, enjoying the opportunity to connect with industry colleagues and highlight some of the nearly 1,000 projects we have delivered in support of MassDOT’s goal of enhancing multi-modal mobility throughout the state.
Bringing together transportation leaders and individuals from the public, academic and private sectors, Moving Together highlights current pedestrian, bicyclist and public transportation topics, providing a forum for sharing successful initiatives, exploring new tools and resources, and discussing forward-thinking strategies for future challenges.
Jess Kenny, Director of Urban Permitting, moderated the session “MassDOT’s Resiliency Improvement Plan and other Resiliency Efforts.” Panelists discussed strategies for integrating climate change initiatives into both immediate and long-term planning efforts, including flood mitigation and culvert replacement. The session also touched on wetlands replication, the rewilding project at Tidmarsh Sanctuary in Plymouth, and how heat vulnerability impacts transportation. VHB's team has been instrumental in providing resiliency planning services to MassDOT and many other clients.
For nearly 40 years, VHB has been partnering with MassDOT to deliver complex multimodal transportation projects, as exemplified by our work on the Kelley Square Improvements and the Columbia Greenway Rail Trail, among others. In addition, VHB has been working closely across Massachusetts state agencies to advance their ambitious climate action plan and the state’s goal of reaching net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050.
