Alvaro Calle, PE, was selected to receive the Amy Polk and Selman Altun Young Professional of the Year Award through the Chesapeake and Potomac Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (CAPSITE), formally known as the Washington DC Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE). This award acknowledges the exceptional contributions of Alvaro to the section and his significant efforts toward its programming and activities. The award highlights members under the age of 35 who have made outstanding contributions to the community and transportation profession. Alvaro was recognized at the Annual Conference and Business Meeting in November.
Alvaro’s passion for ITE started early as a graduate student at Virginia Tech. There, he competed in ITE’s student Traffic Bowl competition as a student member where he helped Virginia Tech win twice in the Virginia Section of ITE (VASITE). He also competed against other schools in ITE’s Southern District. As a professional, Alvaro is currently serving as the DC Area Director of CAPSITE, where he is responsible for technical meetings and events to make certain CAPSITE members remain active with ITE in the DC area. He’s also assisted the section with university outreach events to network with student ITE Chapters at local universities.
“This well-deserved award is especially meaningful because Alvaro was chosen by his traffic engineering peers across Washington DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia,” said Joe Wanat, Managing Director of Metro DC. “Alvaro brings his infectious and vibrant personality to every task and initiative he advances for ITE, and that’s what makes him stand out. Congratulations, Alvaro!”
