Amir Rizavi, PE, ENV SP, Director of Transportation Systems, has joined the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Northeastern District’s Board of Directors as Secretary/Treasurer, which kicks off a four-year commitment starting in 2022. During this time, Amir will work with District Officers to coordinate operations for the various Sections within the Northeastern District, balance the District’s operating budget, track ongoing initiatives, and advise on future decisions as Secretary/Treasurer. Amir will next move into a leadership role as Vice President, then President, and finally, Past President. The Northeastern District covers three Sections - the Met Section of New York & New Jersey, the Upstate New York Section, and the New England Section. The three Sections include members from Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey.

“My involvement with ITE’s Northeastern District spans a significant portion of my career and has helped me develop not only a strong network of transportation professionals, but the leadership skills I carry into my every-day interactions with my colleagues at VHB and with our clients,” said Amir. “I’m proud to join the ITE Northeastern District as a leader and look forward to working with the District’s Officers as we enact an agenda that will help move the needle for our transportation industry.”

Amir was introduced to ITE’s Consultants Council in 2003 and has been an integral part of the Executive Committee of the Council for the past 18 years, holding various positions such as Newsletter Editor, Communications Director, Vice Chair, and most recently as Chair of the Council. In that role, Amir’s leadership was instrumental in elevating the Consultants Council within ITE through visibility efforts. Amir has also been active on the ITE Technical Program Committee and has participated in numerous presentations, panels, and publications with ITE at the local, District, and international level, and was also a graduate of the inaugural class of Leadership ITE (Class of 2014).

Amir’s transportation experience includes the management of traffic, parking, transit, and pedestrian studies for planning, infrastructure, design, and development projects throughout New York City and the surrounding metropolitan region, including New Jersey. His work on a wide range of real estate, transportation, and infrastructure projects, and regular experience working with New York City agencies on major Environmental Impact Statements and multimodal transportation studies, lends to his capabilities as a leader and mentor for his team. In 2020, Amir helped develop Intersect, a revolutionary technology that leverages big data to provide an accurate, comprehensive view of the transportation network.

Earlier this year, the District honored Amir with the prestigious Harvey B. Boutwell Distinguished Service Award, an honor given annually to an individual who has provided diligent and devoted service to ITE and the District.
