Supporting our mission of creating a more sustainable future, VHB is excited to announce the addition of Bryce Corlett, PhD, PE, ENV SP, as Senior Coastal Engineer. In this role, Bryce will help deliver resilient and adaptive solutions to waterfront redevelopment and development challenges in response to climate change. With extensive experience in coastal and ocean engineering, port and waterfront climate adaptation design, and climate risk evaluation, Bryce will be pivotal for helping clients address the disruptors and opportunities that our communities and industries face from extreme weather events.

Bryce will be responsible for driving the expansion of VHB’s coastal engineering services across the East Coast by remaining on the forefront of scientific and engineering practices, policy development, and funding opportunities. His role includes partnering with VHB’s Market and Service Leaders, Managing Directors, and project teams to provide innovative, sustainable solutions that help tackle coastal engineering and resiliency challenges.

“Sea-level rise, storm surge, and major storm events pose a threat to coastal communities and quality of life, causing disruption and challenges during emergencies. We are seeing that in real-time with Hurricane Helene, Hurricane Milton, and many storms preceding it,” said Neville Reynolds, Coastal Engineering and Resiliency Growth Leader. “Bryce’s knowledge and experience will help offer adaptive, scalable solutions that protect infrastructure from these growing risks.”

Bryce’s experience includes serving as Assistant Research Professor of Coastal Adaptation and Resilience at Old Dominion University, and Research Fellow at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. His work has spanned a wide range of climate-vulnerable communities, and he has successfully led multidisciplinary teams in both research and applied projects.

“As we advance VHB’s strategic plan, the addition of Bryce marks a significant milestone for bolstering our Coastal Engineering and Resiliency practice,” said Tom Jackmin, PE, Chief Strategic Growth Officer. “Bryce’s scientific and engineering leadership builds upon our skillsets so that we can provide the full array of services needed by our clients and communities to drive impactful change.”

Bryce holds a Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a Master of Science in Coastal Engineering from the University of Southampton, and dual bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering and Ocean & Earth Science from Old Dominion University. He sits on the national American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) Coasts, Oceans, Ports & Rivers Institute (COPRI) Piers and Wharves Design Standards Working Group, is a licensed Professional Engineer in Virginia and California, and holds the Envision Sustainability Professional designation.
