Communities nationwide are focused on solving the housing affordability crisis. At the 2024 Urban Land Institute (ULI) Fall Meeting, David Quart, VHB Northeast Real Estate Market Leader, participated in a dynamic panel to discuss the multifaceted challenges impacting families, employers, and communities.
Moderated by Rosemarie Hepner, Vice President of the ULI Terwilliger Center for Housing, the panel brought together diverse voices from the affordable housing industry, including Ryan Goins from Winstead and Senthil Sankaran of the Amazon Housing Equity Fund. Together, they explored innovative solutions across the public and private sectors to address the crisis, including new financing tools, funding sources, and significant policy changes to unlock land, zoning, and public resources.
During the session, David highlighted New York’s City of Yes for Housing Opportunity Plan as a pivotal example of forward-thinking policy. This plan’s comprehensive zoning updates aim to reduce barriers to housing development and encourage smart growth in neighborhoods historically underrepresented in the city’s housing strategies. Expected to pave the way for more than 80,000 new housing units, the plan will provide greater access to affordable homes while promoting equity and sustainability across all five boroughs.
