The American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) named Sunserea Gates, VHB Senior PD&E Project Manager, to its National Board of Directors during a ceremony at its 2024 National Conference in Raleigh, North Carolina. Sunserea joins the Board for a three-year term as the ASHE National Director (Southeast Region). ASHE provides a form for members and partners of the highway and transportation industry to promote a safe, efficient and sustainable transportation system through education, innovation and fellowship.

Sunserea has more than 23 years of experience helping clients and communities implement planning and environmental studies for major expressways, highways, and rail corridor transportation projects. She provides senior advisory oversight for VHB’s Orlando Project Development and Environment (PD&E) studies team, which partners with public and private organizations to consider environmental, social, and economic factors when new transportation projects or improvements are planned. VHB’s context-sensitive approach to PD&E elevates mobility and community connections and includes projects like the Central Florida Expressway Northeast Connector Expressway Phase 2 PD&E Study and alternative corridor evaluation, the US 17/92 PD&E Study, and US 98 PD&E Study and conceptual design.

"Joining ASHE as a Board Member is an incredible opportunity to contribute to an organization dedicated to advancing the quality and sustainability of transportation systems,” said Sunserea. “In the Southeast U.S. alone, we continue to see significant investments in infrastructure projects, improving not only mobility but also safety. Both ASHE and VHB share these priorities and we will foster innovation and collaboration among transportation professionals together.”
