Nine VHB and Massport team members stand together on stage at the One Massport Business Meeting to accept the Outstanding Achievement Award.

At the One Massport Annual Meeting on June 11, the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) presented VHB’s Carol Lurie, Principal, and Donny Goris-Kolb, Senior Sustainability Planner, with their Outstanding Achievement Award, which typically spotlights Massport employees who have significantly contributed to the Authority’s operation and business goals. As partners to Massport, we are honored to be distinguished as part of their team.

Carol and Donny received the honor for their role in the program management office of Massport’s Roadmap to Net Zero by 2031 program. Specifically, Massport recognized VHB’s team and other members of the program management office, as well as representatives from Massport’s Organizational Development Department, for their exceptional work on the Net Zero Roadshows. Interim Massport CEO Edward C. Freni presented the award, with MassDOT Secretary of Transportation Monica Tibbits-Nutt and Delta CEO Ed Bastian also in attendance.

The Roadmap to Net Zero is a bold climate mitigation plan to achieve net zero carbon emissions across all Massport facilities by 2031. Further preparing Massport for the effects of climate change, the Net Zero plan will directly benefit surrounding communities by creating a more sustainable future.

As part of the program management office, VHB helps oversee services that guide the program’s implementation and integrates the Net Zero plan throughout Massport’s operations. VHB’s responsibilities include research and analysis on technical subjects and initiatives, policy analysis and development, grant acquisition and implementation support, and change management initiatives.

VHB played an instrumental role in the Net Zero Roadshows, a series of in-person informational sessions that introduced Massport employees to the Net Zero program and solicited their ideas on decarbonizing every aspect of Massport’s operations. Coordinating with Massport’s Organizational Development Department, Carol and Donny traveled to all Massport facilities to deliver over 30 presentations. These were engaging, two-way discussions in which Carol and Donny provided and explained baseline information about the Net Zero program, and Massport employees offered their perspectives on how the Net Zero program impacts their department-level activities and how they can individually contribute to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions.

As evidenced by their success with the Net Zero Roadshow, VHB is poised to take on additional program management opportunities and tackle climate action plans, which is in line with their commitment to building a more sustainable future and improving the health of communities. VHB continues to prioritize sustainability as an essential part of their approach as a generational company founded on stewardship.
