A locally owned and operated community-focused ski resort, Bolton Valley Resort strives to make its slopes more accessible to and affordable for families throughout Vermont and New England. For the past 15 years, VHB has partnered with Bolton Valley to advance its operations and help the resort create a sustainable community.
From 2008 to 2013, VHB helped Bolton Valley solve community drinking water system issues by siting a new, high-yield bedrock well connected to the public water system. Compared to previous efforts at siting wells, which resulted in low-yield wells of one to three gallons per minute, the well VHB developed yields 21 gallons per minute, supplying much more fresh drinking water to the community. Additional projects that VHB has supported include the installation of a 121-foot-tall wind turbine that generates approximately 300,000 kilowatt hours of power per year and annual water-quality monitoring to enhance snowmaking capacity.
VHB recently collaborated with Bolton Valley stakeholders on a community-wide master plan to assess the highest and best use of the resort’s land assets. The plan recognizes the symbiosis between Bolton Valley and the community, and the investments and revenue generation needed to support the long-term growth and transformation of the resort into a vibrant, year-round destination. Key components of the plan include an expanded base area with a new hotel and townhomes, seasonal recreational activities, a range of housing to support full-time residents, and infrastructure upgrades to support the development program.
