Cooke Seafood, formerly Wanchese Fish Company, is a family-owned and operated business that specializes in sorting, packaging, and shipping fresh seafood to various destinations, including the United States, Argentina, and France. VHB assisted in the development of a new cold storage facility and processing plant in Northgate Commerce Park to meet the increasing demand for seafood. Working under an accelerated construction schedule, VHB collaborated closely with the City of Suffolk to expedite the development of the first phase of the industrial park, aligning it with the master development plan. Additionally, VHB successfully obtained permits from local agencies, making certain that Wanchese could meet its opening day schedule. The development plan included site planning for the 240,000-square-foot facility and a master stormwater, water, and sewer plan for the park, as well as the design of a 2,700-foot, four-lane roadway with new traffic signals to create a four-way intersection. VHB also designed a 1,200 GPM municipal sanitary sewer pump station to support the park’s full development.
