FedEx Distribution Facility

Natick, MA

Scannell Properties turned to VHB’s integrated services team to advance the development of this new distribution facility that primarily handles small packages. The project involved the replacement of an existing warehouse building with a state-of-the-art 178,000-square-foot FedEx distribution center that is served by 10 drive-in doors and 42 loading docks. Developing the site required careful work within the Town of Natick’s Aquifer Protection District. Protective measures included the development of a stormwater management system to mitigate the increase in the rate of stormwater runoff from the impervious area and improve the water quality from the site. Our traffic team was also called on to develop a plan that improved traffic flow in a highly congested area while also accommodating movement of large trailer trucks between the site and I-90 in a safe and efficient manner. The VHB team skillfully addressed myriad design and permitting challenges and developed effective solutions to address neighborhood issues. VHB’s services on the project paved the way for the development team to secure approvals from state and local agencies and move this project to a successful completion.
