Allegiant Airlines’ new facility at the St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport (PIE) is a combination maintenance/storage/office building—perfect for maintaining the planes that serve the more than two million customers who travel through the airport annually. PIE’s largest commercial airline tenant moved to a more convenient site next to the existing taxiway, in a space formerly occupied by UPS. VHB was part of the design-build team responsible for the new 26,300-square-foot facility that now accommodates vehicle parking/loading areas, building utilities and drainage, service, and maintenance and operations, as well as adjacent aircraft parking.
VHB’s integrated services team provided land survey, civil engineering, landscape architecture, and aviation planning services for the project, which also included site planning and design for the building placement on the airport property site. We also provided aircraft parking and operational feasibility analysis, Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) obstacle clearance analysis, and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) obstruction clearance analysis. Our team coordinated permitting through multiple agencies, including Pinellas County, the City of Largo, directly through PIE, the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD), the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), and the FAA.
