In support of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 5 need to meet increasing regional freight demand in Central Florida, VHB conducted a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) study to evaluate potential truck and freight parking solutions that will enhance truck parking capacity along the 75-mile I-4 critical corridor from Osceola County to Volusia County. VHB provided rigorous evaluations, extensive multi-agency collaboration, comprehensive analysis, and an inclusive public engagement plan, which led to the recommendation of five new truck parking locations, and the development of corresponding conceptual site plans. The project demanded extensive coordination between four counties, multiple stakeholders and related Central Florida Expressway, Florida’s Turnpike, and Osceola County projects. The project also included development of plans for new I-4 access ramps at a recommended Volusia County site. VHB’s insight on environmental and safety considerations in the corridor helped FDOT respond to commercial demands and strengthen infrastructure for the trucking industry throughout Florida.
