VHB is conducting the Project Development and Environment (PD&E) study for a multi-use trail along State Route 10 (US 90) in Walton County, which is part of the Florida Shared-Use Nonmotorized (SUN) Trail corridor extending from Pensacola to Jacksonville. VHB will help the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) improve pedestrian and bike mobility through DeFuniak Springs via trail design, extensive community outreach, and environmental analysis. Our team is studying trail alignments to minimize impacts and costs, which includes navigating ROW constraints, adjacent land uses, and environmental attributes. The team is collaborating with an array of state and local agency advocates for the trail improvement including FDOT, the City of DeFuniak Springs, Walton County, and the Okaloosa-Walton Transportation Planning Organization. When complete, the trail will be an important economic and recreational connection for the community.
