In support of Middlebury College’s Energy2028 initiative to use 100 percent renewable energy by 2028, Encore Renewable Energy developed a 5.0-MW (AC) solar photovoltaic generating facility on college-owned property in the Town of Middlebury. 29,000 ground-mounted single-axis panels arranged on a driven structural support system that follow the sun east to west throughout the day. The site will feature pollinator-friendly landscaping to support crop production, and livestock will provide vegetation management.
VHB provided environmental consulting services for a petition for a Section 248 Certificate of Public Good (CPG) to the Vermont Public Utility Commission, which consisted of tasks such as natural resources assessments; flood hazard analysis; a threatened and endangered plant survey; wildlife habitat assessments; a waste disposal/soil erosion assessment; a Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment; ALTA/ACSM Land Title Survey; site survey and preparation of an existing and proposed conditions site plan; and construction and operational stormwater permitting. VHB also supported the development and securing of a CPG for the construction of the associated 2-MW lithium-ion battery electric storage system (BESS) to provide additional energy and resiliency to the Town of Middlebury.
