VHB Guides WedgeLinks Golf Course Through Efficient Approvals Process

Framingham, MA

February 14, 2025

WedgeLinks, LLC, received local permitting approvals from the City of Framingham’s Planning Board and Conservation Commission in January, allowing construction to begin. VHB managed the permitting process, efficiently securing approvals in just a single Planning Board meeting.

The City of Framingham complimented VHB’s efficiency in advancing the project, noting our deep understanding of the site and the city itself. “This is a very well put together proposal that the folks [at VHB] have really done their homework … you made it so easy for us,” said Kristina Johnson, Chair of the Framingham Planning Board, shortly before the board unanimously approved WedgeLinks’ proposal and granted all approvals requested.

WedgeLinks’ nine-hole Framingham course plays into an up-and-coming golf trend of short courses—smaller golf courses designed to fit into busy schedules. This course is the first of many that WedgeLinks intends to build.

The golf course was designed by golf architect Tyler J. Rae, with VHB providing site engineering services on the approximately 10 acres of land. The wooded lot has been challenging to develop due to its steep contours and exposed ledges. The course has been designed to respect the site’s natural landscape wherever possible, keeping trees and minimizing grade changes to increase the project’s sustainability.

VHB’s work on the golf course also included designs for stormwater systems; an amenity space that will host food trucks and a pop-up bar; and a parking lot, for which VHB proposed a sustainable permeable asphalt solution.

“VHB’s permitting knowledge and creativity in engineering this unique piece of land has made the entire process for WedgeLinks’ first location smooth and effortless,” said Michael Mahoney, founder of WedgeLinks.

Now that the project has local permitting approvals, WedgeLinks plans to start construction quickly, with the goal of opening the golf course in the fall. VHB will provide construction oversight and support services throughout. When it opens, the golf course will fill a recreational need for the adjacent office park and corporate mixed-use district, as well as the larger Framingham community.
