VHB’s partnership with small businesses and firms owned by minority, women, and other historically disadvantaged individuals helps drive innovation, deliver value to clients, and contribute to local economic growth and social equity.
There are strong workforce demands and need for a robust network of small and diverse suppliers in the AEC industry. VHB welcomes opportunities to partner with diverse suppliers and we continuously work to meet or exceed our subcontracting goals as we serve our clients. Based on a project’s scope and tasks, we craft meaningful roles for each of our partners, while also seeking opportunities to offer additional mentorship and support. We help our partners grow their businesses by forming relationships with new agencies and municipalities, as well as offering meaningful roles on projects that are focused on promoting their service offerings to the clients and communities that we collectively serve.
To build our network of diverse suppliers, VHB engages in direct outreach to business partners by holding open house events at our offices, attending industry networking events, and by encouraging team member involvement in professional industry organizations.
VHB has implemented a robust process for vetting, onboarding, managing data, tracking, reporting, and identifying new diverse suppliers for partnering opportunities. This process helps us identify potential teaming partners that may be small, disadvantaged, woman-owned, minority-owned, veteran and service-disabled veteran-owned, LGBTQ+-owned, and HUBZone businesses.

Partner Testimonials
“SMK’s successful partnership with VHB began with our involvement in the MBTA’s South Coast Rail Program. VHB proactively engaged our team members to provide valuable service offerings to the program, while at the same time, creating opportunity for our firm’s growth. I look forward to continuing our partnership with VHB as we expand SMK to better serve the needs of our clients, including the MBTA. VHB was the catalyst for launching SMK Services into the owner’s side of the consulting world, helping us gain the exposure we needed to grow our business.”
—Seta Kalaijian, President SMK Services Inc.
“VHB has been instrumental in Triunity’s success. The success of any business—small or large—is dependent on experience and relationships. The experience we had; the relationships we did not. VHB first included us as a partner providing electrical support for the RLOL Signal System DB and MBTA Red Line Signal Room power projects. What better way to get reintroduced to MBTA than on an existing contract with a partner who has the relationships and is highly thought of. VHB has further shown their commitment to our DBE firm by including us on a variety of opportunities across MA and RI. Triunity has been in the transportation business for more than 18 years and has had many partners. I can honestly say none of them have been as supportive and inclusive as VHB.”
—Marvin Thomas, CEO Triunity, Inc.
“As a new DBE/WBE certified business obtaining work and meeting payroll can be quite the challenge. VHB has been a true champion and support to RND and is a big reason why we are so successful in two short years.”
—Janice M. Bergeron, President RND Consultants, Inc.
