The Hampton Roads Association for Commercial Real Estate (HRACRE) hosted their annual Excellence in Design Awards this November to recognize distinction in development design. The awards program showcased 46 winning projects selected from hundreds that were submitted throughout the Hampton Roads region. VHB’s integrated team of civil engineers, landscape architects, and environmental scientists were honored to play a role in eight award-winning projects:
- Best Institutional/Public Building: The Mary W. Jackson Neighborhood Center in Hampton; architect: Work Program Architects; general contractor: Associated Contracting.
- Best Landscape Project: Ocean View Wayfinding + Beach Access in Norfolk; architect: VIA design; general contractor: East-West Construction.
- Best Sustainable Project: Ohio Creek Watershed National Disaster Resilience Project in Norfolk; general contractor: MEB.
- Best Healthcare Project: The Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) Children’s Pavilion Behavioral Health Hospital in Norfolk; architect: Array Architects and PF&A Design; general contractor: W.M. Jordan Company.
- Best Educational Building: New Chemistry Building at Old Dominion University; architects: Moseley Architects, SmithGroup; general contractor: W.M. Jordan.
- Award of Merit, Best Educational Building: Eastern Virginia Medical School’s (EVMS) Waitzer Hall in Norfolk; architects: RRMM Architects, Page Southerland Page; general contractor: S.B. Ballard.
- Award of Merit, Best Conceptual Project: The 5/31 Memorial in Virginia Beach; architect: Dills Architects.
- Award of Merit, Best Small Project: The Elizabeth River Project Fred W. Beazley River Academy Addition in Portsmouth; architect: Dills Architects; general contractor: Skanska.
