MathWorks had a vision to grow their Apple Hill headquarters to accommodate 600 new high-tech jobs, so they turned to VHB to keep their expansion plans on track. The campus was on target to become the center for the company’s innovative software development team. Before the new facilities could be approved, MathWorks needed to solve complex, multi-jurisdictional transportation and access issues associated with the site. VHB designed major improvements on Route 9 to address project-related impacts and assisted in securing grants from state agencies for the implementation. As MathWorks continued to grow, they purchased the 32-acre Lakeside Campus and entrusted VHB with its redevelopment, expanding VHB’s role to include the permitting, site/civil, transportation, traffic, environmental, and survey aspects of this project. VHB worked closely with the team to design the infrastructure for this new 510,000‑square‑foot campus aligned with MathWorks’ innovative and collaborative culture.
