Located 10 miles southeast of midtown Manhattan along Jamaica Bay, Spring Creek Park is a 237-acre nature-based park managed by the National Park Service (NPS). It includes filled/reclaimed land composed of dredged material, solid waste, ash, and sludge deposited in the early to mid-1900s. VHB provided technical and strategic support to NPS for site evaluation and cleanup, including developing a Removal Site Evaluation, conducting groundwater, soil, and surface water investigations, overseeing radiological surveys, and assisting with community relations at this politically-sensitive site.
