North Shore University Hospital is an 800-bed teaching hospital with more than 6,000 physicians, nurses, and staff. As the need arose to replace the undersized, antiquated facilities and provide an appropriate clinical environment for the complexity of the cases treated at the cornerstone healthcare facility, Northwell Health selected VHB to provide civil engineering, transportation, and environmental services for the construction of a new Advanced Surgical Pavilion.
This new, eight-story, 269,000-square-foot building includes a surgical suite, cardiothoracic and neurological ICU facilities, mechanical space, and a parking deck, as well as a new entrance to the hospital’s Tower Pavilion and public lobby. Site circulation, grading, drainage, and utilities were reconfigured, and emergency access was evaluated.
VHB has supported Northwell Health’s capital planning and facilities development initiatives for more than 20 years, from horizontal infrastructure and parking facilities to major capital projects. VHB brings organizational familiarity, technical experience, and top-priority attention to each assignment so that Northwell Health can focus on delivering high-quality patient care.
